A much loved combination in both web and print design these days is the grungy, splattered, vector effect. The real key in creating this effect is in the photoshop brushes used (unless you do everything yourself). I collected this list of excellent brushes from deviantART, and I also used them to create this wallpaper (click to expand):

Grunge Brushes by Ady333, probably my favorite grunge brushes. Ever.

Starry Grunge is a beautiful combination of grunge with splatter effects.

These Vector Grunge Brushes are possibly the best example of the vector-grunge style I have seen in brush form.
